Starting to Cultivate a Garden
by
Steve Evans
While gardening is not a walk in the park, its not a war zone either.
Gardening can be an extremely exciting venture if you set your mind to
it. The following are steps involved in the process of cultivating
a garden:
Site:
You need to choose the site of your garden. The process of gardening
starts when you decide where it is that you want your garden to be
located. You will need to make sure that your garden site is an area
that is exposed to sunlight and is fertile soil wise. Make sure that
your site is located in an area that is not prone to erosion. Target
level ground to avoid the loss of nutrients from the soil.
Clearing:
The next step will be to clear the land. If the site has been cluttered
with weeds or grass, you should set about clearing it. Mulch the ground
or use an herbicide.
Soil
preparation: After you have cleared the land, the next
step will be to prepare the land. You should do this by loosening the
soil and mixing organic matter into it in order to enhance its
fertility. You can get organic matter by getting decomposed materials
such as dead leaves, flowers and other dead matter.
Garden
size: Then choose the size of your garden. How big do you
want it to be? Depending on the size of the garden, you can decide what
kind of plants you want to be in your garden. Your garden should be
planned in terms of its presentation. You should plan how you want your
garden to look like before you set out to plant your flowers. After you
have settled these issues, you can then go ahead and start maintaining
your garden.
